How to Build a Golf Net
Do you love playing golf, and are you interested in learning how to build a golf net? If you are good at do it yourself projects and can easily follow how-to advice then building a golf net may be the perfect project for you.
Using a Golf Net
A golf net can be used in one’s backyard or house to practice the art of chipping, pitching, or driving. A chip shot is a shot that is quite close to the green, but not actually close enough that the golfer can putt the ball.
Chip shots are usually played with the following clubs: a six iron, a seven iron, an eight iron, a nine iron, or a pitching wedge. A pitch shot is a shot played with a lofted club. This is usually a shot that is approximately forty or fifty yards away from the green. When you drive the ball, it is typically the first shot that is played on a golf hole. So, then let’s learn how to build a golf net so you can improve your golf game!
How to Build a Golf Net
You can make a golf net using spare parts found around your house. If you cannot find the spare parts that you need, you can also purchase these different objects at a hardware store, or at a sports store.
Materials
In order to build a golf net, you need the following materials: netting, a drill, zip ties, two steel poles, six smaller eye screws, four tent stakes, and approximately one hundred feet of nylon rope.
Depending upon how large you want to make your tent will also depend upon how much netting you need and how large the poles have to be. If you want to create a larger net, than you need more netting and bigger poles. You should attempt to find a type of netting that is weighted at the bottom, because this will stop the net from rising.
Assembling the Net
Pick up your poles, and drill holes at the top of these poles. You will want to drill three holes. One hole is at the twelve o’clock position, one hole is at the three o’clock position, and one hole is at the six o’clock position.
Basically, two of the holes will be directly across from each other, and the third hole will be between them. Then screw the eye screws into these three different holes. After you screw the eye screws into the holes, use your zip tie to tie the top grommet hole on the net into the hole that is in between the two holes that are directly across from each other.
Repeat this step and zip tie the rest of the neat into the poles along the seams of the net. You cannot make the net too tight across, or you will be unable to allow for movement from the golf ball.
Attaching the Net
Next, you need to cut for lines of rope. Depending upon the size of your net will influence how long the ropes should be. However, a good measure is about twenty feet long. Then, tie a know at the end of each of the zip lines into the eye screws that you have not used on the poles. These should be the eye screws that are directly across from each other, the eye screws at the six o’clock positions and the eye screws at the twelve o’clock positions.
Next, insert your poles into the ground. Similar to how you did not want to make your net too tight across; you also want to make sure that you insert your poles into the ground at a distance that is close enough that the golf ball will drop to the ground after it hits the net.
If the poles are placed too far away from the net, the ball might hit the net and rebound back to the individual that hit the golf ball. Finally, stack the lines to ensure the net has extra support. These new lines should be perpendicular to the net.
Now that you know how to build a golf net, enjoy watching your golf game improve!
