A beginner's guide to high school football.
Playing football in high school is a dream that many boys have while growing up. But, making the team isn’t as easy as it might seem. If a kid wants to end up playing high school football, they should start playing on teams when they are young. This will help them develop the necessary skills to make the team later. Keep in mind that even if you do make the team, you won’t necessarily be playing. It’s an unfortunate aspect of high school and professional leagues, but it’s the truth. Getting to play is not always guaranteed, and that’s why it’s so important that children practice and hone their skills, long before they ever hit high school.
A beginner’s guide to high school football would state that
there are many similarities between it and professional teams.
Of course, most high school students do not play as rough as
professional players but, they do get pretty close. High
school football fields are usually not as large as a
professional team would be. A professional team plays on a
field that is 100 yards long and 53 yards wide. Most high
schools do not have the capacity to host a field this big, so
they make it only as large as they possibly can handle.
High school football games are divided into four 15 minute
quarters that are then separated by a 12 minute break at
half-time. You will find that there are also two minute breaks
at the end of the first and third quarters. Each offensive
team of the two that are playing has 40 seconds from the end
of a given play until they must get the ball before the start
of the next play or they will be penalized. If you’ve ever
been to a high school football game, you already know that
this is a tradition that students, friends, faculty and
families take very seriously.
The stands will always be packed, the air full of energy
and the team pumped up to take a victory. In fact, Friday
nights are always looked forward to, with most students
putting other plans on hold to attend the game that night.
During the day on Fridays at school, football players and
cheerleaders will either wear their uniforms or shirts
indicating their sports to show their pride for the game later
that night. Students will come to the game wearing the school
colors as well. When a student is trying out for high school
football, he will be put through rigorous tests to see what
his skill level is and what his capacity is for handling
various exercises. Students will be tested on their endurance
by being asked to run a certain number of miles in a certain
number of minutes and they will have to do other exercises
dictated by the coach. Usually, a coach will have two-three
call backs before he or she decides who is going to make the
team that year. When call backs are finished and the team has
been chosen, the players must practice almost every day with
their teammates to prepare for the season.
