How To Make A Chocolate Mold At Home

Molds come in all shapes and sizes, just about everything in a house can be used to make a mold. That’s not saying one should go get a toy and slap chocolate across it, and throw it in the refrigerator.

Make the Mold

A simple candy mold can be used for a mold. Most craft stores have a mold section, lollipops, soap making kits, ice cube trays, candy dishes, these can all be used to make a chocolate mold. Molds can range from .99 on up. Many have more than one mold per set. Some toy packages you can use a mold out of. Choosing to buy a mold kit Decide on the kit that you want. Many will come with the mold and stick. Others will include instructions, chocolate and sometimes dyes but not all. Whatever you are using make sure it is clean first and dry. You don’t want to contaminate your chocolate with anything. Aluminum foil may also be used as a mold but be very careful that it doesn’t spill out.

There are two ways to melt chocolate, one way is to put it in microwave safe bowl and stick it in for about a minute, stir it and place it back in the microwave for another minute. It may take a few more seconds or a few seconds off. It depends on the microwave. Be sure to stir the chocolate each time you stop it.

The second way to melt chocolate is by sticking it in a double boiler, if you have one. Bring the water to boil, turn the heat off and put the chocolate in the top one. Make sure it’s above the water and stir it until it melts. This melts from the steam. DO NOT PUT THE CHOCOLATE IN THE WATER!

Tip: Do not stick the chocolate in a pan and turn on the stove because that will only make a bigger mess to clean later.

Tip: If you desire chunky or M&Ms in your chocolate pour them in now before the chocolate settles.

To make a chunky chocolate you may want to crush some nuts up and stir them into the melting chocolate. Once the chocolate is melted pour in the desired mold using a teaspoon to fill the mold. Tap the bottom to get any air bubbles out of the chocolate. This will leave little holes in the chocolate if you don’t.

Making a Lollipop Mold

Do the steps above and once chocolate is poured into the lollipop mold place a stick in the center. Make sure the stick is securely in the chocolate, if not pour a little more chocolate over it.

Cooling the Molds

Place the mold very carefully inside the refrigerator and wait. The chocolate will start coming away from the mold when it is done. Take it out and put it on a soft surface like a napkin. A cold, hard surface may make the chocolate break when it comes out. If it doesn’t come off try sticking it back in the refrigerator for a little while longer, it may need some time. If the chocolate is still not coming out you can either rub the mold or carefully pour water on the mold (not chocolate) and it should come off.

It is now done, place them in your mouth and enjoy. Try not to eat them all in one setting.
