Q&A – Bride and Groom Titles

Q: Is it proper to include courtesy titles (Mr., Ms., Mrs., Doctor) for the bride and groom on invitations? I've seen it done different ways, and am not sure which way is correct.

A: Traditionally, the more formal the invitation, the more information you include in the form of names and titles. As a general rule, you may include courtesy titles for the bride and groom only if titles are also included for the parents. The more formal your invitation, the more appropriate this is.

On casual invitations, there's no need to include titles. Also, if you omit titles for the parents, omit them for the bride and groom as well. In some cases, you may choose to leave off middle names if titles are left off.

It's ultimately your decision, so even if you include courtesy titles for the parents, you do not need to include them for the bride and groom.
